Dressing Tips for Petite Girls

When you’re petite, getting clothes that fit can sometimes be difficult. As someone who’s under 5’3″, I’ve found myself shouting a staff member to grab me a shorter leg jean as the ones I’ve picked are waaaay to long or coats that have drowned me to make me resemble an 80s throwback (such is the unintentional massive shoulder pads). If you’re in agreement, then you know how frustrating it can be. But there are ways around this.

I am a big believer that you should be happy in your own skin but sometimes being a few inches taller can boost your confidence. This is why I’ve gathered some information to try and help us smaller girls out there. Although the influencers I have looked towards have their own sense of style. These petite fashionista have one rule: try not to over layer your outfit too much.

1. Nip in at the Waist

Keep oversized layers looking streamline by nipping them in around the hips to create a ladylike silhouette. This fashion insider tip can also make your legs look longer which is music to a short girls ears.

2. Short Skirts and Pointy Toes

Your footwear is sometimes the first thing people look at so make sure yours are on point. It’s a great distraction from people noticing your height at first glance

3. Cropped and Tight Fitting

While sporting cropped clothing may seem like the opposite of what you should be doing, that bot of ankle on show can give the illusion that your legs are much longer. Go for a high waisted fit to make those legs look even more elongated.

4. High Waisted Fit

If you’re a petite lady, it is essential you have a variety of high waisted trousers in your wardrobe, whether it’s a pair of PVC trousers, tailored trousers or culottes pants. As mentioned above, high waisted jeans or trousers give the impression you have longer legs than you actually have.
